We were happy to be the beer sponsors for Ligamac's yearly jazz
festival fundraiser.
Over 600 people turned out for the event
and, as you can see from the photos, everyone had a great time.
The service arm of Liga M.A.C. has 3 main areas of interest:
education, emergency medical help and providing basic needs.
The programs dealing with these concerns are:
Rally Raid Mexico: The adventure began in 1977. Thierry Sabine got lost on his motorcycle in the Libyan desert during the Abidjan-Nice rally. "Rescued from the sands", he returned to France defeated by these dreamlike landscapes. He promised himself that he would share this discovery with as many as possible and lived for a single goal: take a maximum number of people into the immensity of this sand. The Paris-Dakar rally opened up an unknown world, one in which its creator, Thierry Sabine, was seen as a true pioneer. His motto then would be: "A challenge for those who go. A dream for those who stay behind.” On 26 December 1978, the first Paris-Dakar took off from the Place du Trocadéro.

The Mexican national champ surfers: I started surfing on a shortboard at the age of 15.
My first longboard Competition was in 2003 National Championships in Rio Nexpa Michoacan, getting a 3rd. place and an invitation to the International Invitational Longboard Tube Ride Contest at Playa Zicatela in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca.
During the 3 events of the Mexican National Championship Circuit 2006-2007 I obtained 1st Place overall in Longboarding and 13th place overall in shortboarding. I Obtained the title as the Mexican National Champion of Longboarding and the one and only spot to represent my country for longboarding in the World Games of Surfing 2008 in Portugal.
Seth Warren, Winner of Six Film Festivals World Wide, Brings Baby & His 2008 Renewable Energy Tour to Baja Brewing Co. on August 30th, 2008. 7:00pm - 10:00pm.
Steadfast in his commitment to educate people on the benefits of renewable energy, Seth Warren, creator of the Oil+Water Project, introduces his second venture - The Elements Tour = Energy Propelled by Nature. The mission of The Elements Tour is to inspire individuals to nurture a personal relationship with nature’s elements: sun, wind, and water in order to efficiently satisfy their growing energy needs.
Adelante Con la Educacion (or ACE): This program was started to create an opportunity for students
of low income families to continue their education into junior
and senior high school. Although a public education system is
provided in Mexico, because of the cost of required daily
uniforms, gym uniforms, shoes, school supplies and tuition, most
low-income students never receive a high school educatuired materials for each student but
has also developed motivational programs which help students
stay focused. At present Liga MAC supports approximately 300
students.
Social Services Program: Although general medical assistance is available it is not
universal and the level of assistance to low-income families is
commensurate with their ability to pay. Liga M.A.C. pays for
tests, medicines and medical attention for those patients
referred by concerned social workers, doion. This
diploma is paramount in getting a decent job. Working with the
local social workers, Liga MAC qualifies students in good
standing that are in danger of dropping out of school. Liga MAC
not only provides the reqctors or other qualified
and concerned medical professionals. In addition we work with
other charitable organizations both locally and internationally
to provide expensive diagnostic and surgical procedures.
Community Services Program: With the advent of the Centro de Apoyo Liga M.A.C., those in
need now have an easily accessible location where they can
acquire aid, information and programs. Twice a month on
“Despensa” day needy families can apply for food vouchers,
clothing and household items. Information about job
opportunities and government assistance programs is also
available. Community Services has also begun “personal
development” programs at the centre. Our first “Alas” (or wings)
program taught young girls between the ages of 12 and 14 about
personal hygiene, educational opportunities and self-confidence
and was a huge success. There are plans to continue the Alas
program and to develop other new programs including nutrition
and job skill programs. In addition, Liga M.A.C. member Rocio
Rosales is currently teaching literacy classes every Thursday
afternoon. Earlier this year guest speaker Ricardo Zamora, a
business man and economics lecturer at the Pan-American
University in Mexico City, gave a motivational talk to a group
of our ACE students at the centre.
